Orthopaedics & Sports Injuries

Pain in the musculoskeletal system occurs in almost every age group. While young people are more likely to suffer from sports injuries or overuse injuries, degenerative changes in the musculoskeletal system become more significant with increasing age. The goal of orthopaedic treatment is, in addition to the elimination of pain, the fullest possible restoration of resilience and functionality.

While sports injuries often have a clear cause and thus a usually known injury pattern, the problem of overuse-related pain is often more complex. In addition to pure overload, muscular imbalances, incorrect postures/positions and (work) stress in everyday life often play a role here.

At the MEDIZINICUM Hamburg, our team of 50 experienced physicians from 25 disciplines work together in an interdisciplinary manner to take a holistic view of your symptoms and to be able to make a targeted diagnosis.

What can you expect at the MEDIZINICUM?

Of course, in the case of an acute injury, this is the focus of diagnostic and therapeutic measures. In the case of overuse syndromes, it is important to know the patient, his environment and his workloads in order to get an overall impression.

Therefore, the orthopaedic initial examination is of central importance, as it sets the course for further diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Accordingly, we take a lot of time for this initial examination. In addition to a detailed discussion, we carry out a comprehensive initial examination from an orthopaedic and manual therapy point of view. In the sense of a Holistic assessment we at the MEDIZINICUM are able to quickly and easily draw on the expertise of experienced doctors from more than 25 different disciplines. This concept (unique in Hamburg) enables us to gain a comprehensive impression of your clinical picture.

Should an extended diagnosis in the sense of a Imaging If extended diagnostics appear to be useful, we can carry these out promptly, often on the same day, in the MEDIZINICUM.

Second opinion before surgery

You have already been advised to have an orthopaedic operation and you are unsure? We will be happy to advise you independently in the sense of a second opinion, guaranteed.

Advanced diagnostics in orthopaedics

At the MEDIZINICUM Hamburg am Stephansplatz we are able to offer any radiological diagnostic procedure: In addition to conventional digital X-rays, we can also perform slice imaging such as a computer tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) can be carried out. Furthermore, there is of course also the possibility of an examination with ultrasound (sonography). If necessary, a Bone density measurement for the diagnosis of osteoporosis/osteopenia can be carried out.

Therapies in orthopaedics

Our focus is on the conservative/interventional treatment of orthopaedic/traumatological clinical pictures. Thanks to our good medical-technical conditions, we are able to offer a wide range of these treatments.
This includes in detail:

  • Manual Therapy & Kinesio-Taping
  • Infiltration treatment:
    • Hyaloronic acid/ACP/CT-guided PRT
  • Shock wave

Surgical therapy

Nevertheless, the orthopaedics department at the MEDIZINICUM Hamburg has many years of experience also in the field of surgical therapy. This experience enables us to recognise the right time when a continuation of conservative (non-surgical) measures no longer makes sense. Through close cooperation with several, also internationally renowned orthopaedic clinics, a presentation in one of these clinics can be organised quickly and without complications if necessary.
