The two organs heart and lung are anatomically closely interwoven, they provide the most important body function, the supply of the organs with oxygen. The vessels carry the oxygen with the blood stream to the target organs or bring the used blood back to the lungs, where it is again loaded with oxygen. The heart is the engine of this process.
These closely linked organ systems are taken care of by our experts at this centre, primarily our cardiologists and pulmonary specialists. This often requires close interdisciplinary coordination, since therapeutic interventions in one organ system may also have consequences for other organ functions. The MEDIZINICUM offers a variety of diagnostic options for evaluating the cardiopulmonary system. The interaction of heart and lung can be evaluated, for example, by means of so-called spiroergometry.
