I am very pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Uwe Kehler will soon be joining the medical team at MEDIZINICUM, where he will strengthen our neurosurgery department in particular.
I have worked closely with Prof. Kehler for several years while serving as Chief of Rheumatology at the Asklepios Clinic in Altona, and during that time I have come to hold him in high regard both professionally and personally.
Prof. Kehler is one of Germany’s most experienced and internationally renowned neurosurgeons. With his many years of clinical, research, and leadership experience, he will greatly enhance our interdisciplinary medical profile.
After receiving his medical license in 1986, Prof. Kehler completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University Medical Center Lübeck. He then worked for many years as a senior physician at the University Medical Centers in Lübeck and Hamburg-Eppendorf. From 2005 to 2026, he served as chief of neurosurgery at the Asklepios Clinic Altona.
Prof. Kehler is also highly regarded internationally:
He served as president of the International Hydrocephalus Society, president of the 2023 World Congress on Hydrocephalus in Hamburg, and president of the “Hydrocephalus and CSF Disorders” section of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). In recognition of his scientific achievements, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Testemitanu University in Moldova in 2021.
Prof. Kehler is the author of over 100 scientific publications, a co-author of numerous book chapters, and co-editor of the standard reference work on normal-pressure hydrocephalus.
His clinical and research interests include, in particular:
• Hydrocephalus and normal-pressure hydrocephalus
• Optimizing treatment through modern shunt adjustments
• Trigeminal neuralgia
• Facial hemispasm
• Brain tumors and neurosurgical second opinions
• Spinal disorders and neurosurgical diagnostics
With his extensive experience, academic excellence, and personal qualities, Prof. Kehler will be an extraordinary asset to our MEDIZINICUM.
