Always better: Staying on the job despite rheumatism

Rheumatism: Today, rheumatism patients are more likely to remain professionally active despite their disease than was the case 10 to 15 years ago. Both the duration of incapacity to work and the number of pensions for reduced earning capacity for people with Chronic inflammatory joint diseases (rheumatism) steadily since 1997. This trend is much more pronounced in rheumatism sufferers than in the totality of all diseases, which points to a connection with improved drug and non-drug therapy strategies, emphasizes Professor Dr. Wilfried Mau, Director of the Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Halle-Wittenberg.
The current analysis, which Prof. Mau has now published in the Zeitschrift für Rheumatologie, gives reason for optimism.
However, in view of the considerable emerging effects of a combination of effective drug therapies and non-drug interventions on earning capacity, he still sees much scope for a further reduction in the number of people with disabilities.
Improvement of the participation in working life of Rheumatism patients.
