Interdisciplinary Medicine is a Model of Success

Hamburg, 14 January 2014. One year ago today, under the motto "Together for better medicine", the Stephansplatz Clinic opened its doors in Hamburg's city centre. On the top floor of the historic Oberpostdirektion, the specialist for internal medicine, rheumatology, clinical immunology and gastroenterology Dr. Keihan Ahmadi-Simab had made his vision of a perfectly equipped centre for interdisciplinary medicine come true and won over a team of very experienced and renowned physicians for this purpose. Above all, the thorough diagnosis of complicated, undiagnosed and unclear clinical pictures, which are often found in the field of autoimmune diseases, requires close cooperation between very different disciplines as well as a great deal of commitment and experience on the part of the doctors involved.

"Our concept has proven itself, the rapid development of our clinic has even far exceeded my expectations," says the founder and Medical Director Ahmadi-Simab happily: "My goal has always been to found a clinic in which everything revolves around the patient and his health. This requires outstanding physicians and the best medical technology - and above all a new, intelligent way of working together across disciplines and occupational groups." The Stephansplatz Clinic was established as an interdisciplinary centre for internal medicine with a special focus on autoimmune diseases.

But the development continued rapidly, with non-internist specialties such as gynaecology, neurology, Orthopaedicspsychiatry, sports medicine and Urology Ahmadi-Simab reports: "This broad spectrum of specialists in combination with the most modern diagnostic possibilities guarantees the competent care I had always dreamed of and at the same time enables the immediate initiation of an individualised therapy.

In the meantime, more than 40 doctors Specialist centre with a day clinic and an inpatient unit, more than 40 doctors, specialists and nurses work together in 17 medical specialties. Since the end of 2014, a recently granted special needs approval has also made it possible to treat statutorily insured rheumatism patients under the roof of the state-licensed private clinic.
